The collection of sculptures from stolen ELGIN INCLUDES THE
Some of the sculptures of the pediments and metopes depicting battles between
Lapithon and Centaurs, but also that of the Parthenon frieze decorating the upper
wall of the cella of the temple over their entire length. Therefore, they represent
more than 1 / 2 of what remains of the sculptural decoration of the Parthenon,
which rescued 75 meters from the first 160 meters, 15 of the 92 metopes, 17 partia
l figures from the pediments, and other parts of the architecture.
The acquisitions include the Elgin still objects from other buildings of the Athenian
Acropolis: the Erechtheum, which became a ruin in the Greek struggle for
independence (1821-33), the Propylaea and the Temple of Athena Nike. Lord Elgin
took about half of the sculptures and the other created in plaster casts.
The collection of marble was the name of Lord Elgin.
